This turned out to be a “best of”/favorites challenge. We have so many ornaments that we practically need a bigger tree or start decorating the back. I love Christmas ornaments, there’s so many cool ones!

Still some moisture in the ground, but not very much. Got down to 14ºF last night. Dogs were very happy to sleep inside for the night, could hardly yard them outside to do their business before bed. “Do we have to? Can’t we just come wake you up at 2 am, when we really have to go?”
I think that Nick was really glad for his padded stable blanket last night. I meant to go break the layer of ice that had no doubt formed in his bucket since doing my evening chores before going to bed, but I was so sleepy that I plumb forgot, so this is what his bucket looked like this morning.
The preferred weapon of choice for the occasion of ice chopping.
Happy anniversary to the Sunday Stills Challenge! It’s been a year, to the day, actually, since the day that everybody first sent in their pictures. The weather was exactly like this, cold and dry and frosty in the morning. I remember taking the dogs up to play in the House Field and how excited I was about the first challenge. Hasn’t worn off yet – I still look forward to them every week.
I had so many that I decided to put them in a little gallery thing so I wouldn’t be stuck uploading them in case the power went out again like earlier this morning. Clicking on the pictures should make them bigger…
I’m taking a page out of Linda’s book and posting more often…
For once the weather people are actually calling the weather correctly. They’re calling for possible snow – maybe an inch of accumulation – tonight and tomorrow, and lows in the teens for a couple days before it is supposedly going to warm up and return to rain. The thermometer on the porch says 28º F. Brrr! Luckily we’re out of the east wind, so the cold doesn’t just instantly cut through your clothes. I’ve been practically living in my down vest and scarf since it started freezing pretty hard a night! Luckily there’s hardly any ice to break, it’s still thin enough for the animals to break.
Took the dogs up in the field for a Sunday Stills “photo shoot” and they had a blast. So much to sniff, especially since the coyotes were out and about last night and yipping like crazy.
I can’t believe it’s the second of December already! Where did the year go? I definitely know I’m not ready to start writing “2010” as part of the date in barely a month’s time. Why, I finally started remembering to write 09, instead of 08. What about you?
The weather we’ve been getting during the break from the rain has been absolutely heavenly! Beautiful sunsets, clear nights, and slightly chilly mornings. And the sun still has quite a bit of warmth to it, which is great for reading in the barn. We had a medium hard frost last night, so everything had a layer of white on it this morning. Even the the water trough had a tiny layer of ice on it. The full moon was absolutely gorgeous last night, and then I caught it this morning before it slipped behind the trees to the west.
Speaking of full moons, I heard on the weather report last night that we’re in for a blue moon this month! The second full moon is supposed to be on the 31st, so I hope it’s clear night!
